Hoi Teng Lao

Hoi Teng (Kathie) Lao is a Master of Research student in the Department of Linguistics, Macquarie University. She holds an MA in Translation (Research) from University College London and received her BA in Translation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2022. She has worked as a production assistant at the Research Centre of Translation, CUHK, where she assisted in the production of Renditions, a Chinese–English literary journal, and as a research assistant at the Department of Translation, CUHK, working on several projects on translation and perception.

Her interest lies in audiovisual translation, subtitling and language variation. Her MRes project investigates the influence of accent familiarity on subtitle processing using eye-tracking, under the supervision of Prof. Jan-Louis Kruger and A/Prof. Lisi Beyersmann.
